Speakers

Mike Raiter

Mike is a gifted, internationally recognised speaker of the Christian faith. Born in Liverpool, England and raised in New South Wales, Australia, Mike began his career as a high school teacher in Sydney and Pakistan. He studied at Moore Theological College in Sydney, becoming the head of the Department of Missions in 1997. On concluding his study at Moore, he returned to Pakistan to teach at the Zarephath Bible Institute. Subsequently, he worked with Church Missionary Society Australia and Interserve in Pakistan. From 2006–2011, Mike served as the principal of the Melbourne School of Theology, an evangelical theological college.

Mike is currently the Director of the Centre for Biblical Preaching, an organisation that seeks to train and equip churches around the globe in expository preaching. Mike is also the author of a number of books, including Stirrings of the Soul: Evangelicals and the New Spirituality which won the 2004 SPCK Australian Christian Book of the Year Award.

Craig Verdouw

Craig is the current Pastor at Gateway Community Church in Perth, but don’t think he’s far, far better than you just because he lives in Australia’s # 1 state. He’s actually quite approachable.

Craig is married to Amy, and they have 3.5 kiddies. He is well outnumbered but handling things surprisingly well. Craig enjoys Amy, his beautiful little girls, people, surfing, freediving, scuba diving, spearfishing, and not losing at chess.

Craig received some degrees from Trinity Theological College and the Reformed Theological College, then went back to work in Cranes and Industrial Lifting for 10 years. In the meantime, he and his wife Amy, together with 6 friends, founded the Christian Reformed Church in Forrestdale WA. Craig was later ordained in the Christian Reformed Churches of Australia.

Now back in pastoral Ministry, Craig is trying as best as possible to declare the praises of Him who rescues from darkness and repositions those he loves within the Kingdom of His Son Jesus. He’s looking forward to Convention, and has appealed for citizenship status as it’ll be his 6th one.

Through John 13-17 Jesus is preparing his disciples for his death. At the centre of this teaching, Jesus teaches his disciples about what it means to remain in him. He teaches them everything they need to know in order to live lives that are honouring to him. He helps them see their true purpose in life and he gives them the skills they will need to deal with a world that will be hostile to the Gospel.

These lessons remain as powerful and relevant to us today. They are particularly important for young people searching for purpose, direction and meaning in life. We challenge you to come and find out what it means to remain in Jesus today!

Program

Remain Convention runs from the 6 January 2022 – 11 January 2022.

Convention is aimed at older youth and young adults. Anyone aged 16 – 28 is welcome to attend.

Check-in opens at 2PM on the 6th, and we will finish around 12PM on the 11th. If you are booking flights, aim to arrive at Sydney airport between 10am and 2pm on the 6th. Aim to book flights leaving Sydney after 4pm on the 11th.

We are still putting the final program together but this is some of what you can expect!

COVID-19 Policy

Along with everyone else, we’ve been impacted by COVID-19 in the organisation of Convention 2022, and we’ve carefully considered a range of ways it could continue to affect Convention.
 

We continue to work closely with the site management to ensure that we will be able to run a COVID-Safe event. Planning any event in advance is tricky during these times, let alone a large Convention, so we have a number of things you need to be aware of.

The Convention Planning Committee reserves the right to postpone Convention 2022, if needed, due to COVID-19. We will make an decision on this by October, once we know how well the vaccination program is working in Australia. However, if this happens we will be providing your choice of a refund, or a credit for whenever Convention is postponed to. This means that you can book your Convention tickets with full confidence that you won’t suffer a loss.
Further, you can secure your Convention ticket with just a 10% deposit, and pay the rest closer to the date!

 

Flight Arrangements:

While we provide refunds in the event of Convention being postponed, we have no control over the policies of airlines.

Some have been flexible through this time, but we strongly recommend that you do not book flights until after October when we have confirmed that we will go ahead with Convention.

The Fine Print and Policies

Convention is a Child-Safe Event and we will be using the Child-Safe program endorsed by the CRCA for this event. That means that all youth leaders will need to have completed the relevant State and Territory child safety checks, as well as the “Team Member” training of Childsafe.

All churches will need to appoint a designated youth leader, who will be our main point of contact for Convention. Conventioneers will not be able to register for Convention, without a church first registering a designated leader.

While we understand that a number of Conventioneers are over 18, there are also a large number of under 18s. As such Convention is a strictly alcohol and drug free event. We have a zero-tolerance approach and no refunds will be given to any conventioneers who breach this rule.

We will try our best to keep everyone safe, however, if an accident occurs we will ring emergency services. We recommend therefore that all conventioneers have up to date ambulance cover to avoid any unnecessary costs.

If Conventioneers cancel their convention tickets, for Non-Covid related reasons, we will offer a full refund if the cancellation is made before 1st October 2021. Cancellations after this date will incur a cost depending on how close to the date the cancellation is. Please contact admin to find out what the cancellation cost will be.
